1. The first CD you ever bought.
It was louis armstrong. some complilation that contained my favorite thing he sung 'World on a string'. followed shortly by Holzts 'The Planets'

2. Musical styles that you listen to.
I'm a musical elitist. sometimes i dislike popular music simply *because* it's popular. if i hear it on the radio it goes down a notch automatically- not so fast KEXP- even you...

3. Your 1-5 favourite artists/bands.
Starting with number one: Franck, Aphex Twin, They Might Be Giants, Philip Glass, Dave Brubeck

4. What's in your CD player right now.
Yes.. according to Cat it is a mix cd by me. it's called 'for work' i made it when i started at my job. it was one of a set of three. this one contains john lennon, orbital, zeppelin, aphex twin, and some other business.

5. The most recent CD that you bought.
Ravi Shankar, um.. something, i haven't listened much actually.

6. You're stuck on a deserted island with a solar powered CD player. You can only that sounds like hell. why would you want me to hate the thing i currently like the most? what's wrong with you? why would you curse me that way? why not get me a job as a musician and then make me deaf.. huh?

7. Song you think has the most beautiful lyrics.
i never think songs with lyrics are as beautiful as songs without.. damn all you verbals..

8. Your favourite music video.
i can't think of a music video that isn't trite and diminishes the song it portrays.

9. A song that reminds you of summer.
ironically perhaps, Appalachian spring, by Aaron Copland- one summer i read a trilogy of books, and listened to that music on repeat and scramble for hours and hours and days and days.. i will never fail to associate the two.

10. Your favourite song with the name of a city in the title or lyrics.
the Great Gate of Kiev ... mussorgsky

11. A song you've listened to repeatedly when you were depressed at some point in your life.
depressed.. hmm.. milkman song, aphex twin. strangely, it still makes me happy. i never associate it with bad times.

12. Ever bought an entire album just for one song and winded up disliking everything but that song?
the planets i referred to earlier, i wanted mars because the band was playing it, but i decided i liked all the rest of the planets better. not really neptune because it's too quiet.. but saturn became my favorite overall.

13. A song whose lyrics you thought you knew in the past, but about which you later learned you were incorrect.
that would be heart and soul from huey lewis and the news.. i think i was 5 years old. i thought it was 'hot and cold' ... which at one point in the song it actually was. or so i am told.

14. Your least favourite song on one of your favourite albums.
hmm.. i don't know...

15. A song you like by someone you find physically attractive.
annie lennox.. back in that video for sweet dreams. yeah..

16. A song you like by someone you find physically unattractive or otherwise repellent.
i'm fairly sure cesar franck was not beautiful of countenance. so i'll put the prelude, chorale and fugue here.

17. Your favourite song that has expletives in it.
huh.. i can't think of anything..

18. A song you like that sounds as if it's by someone British but isn't.
sounds british but isn't.. everything by greenday?

19. A song you like that took you forever to finally locate a copy of.
all of that four tet stuff i have.. for some reason.

20. A song that sounds to you like what being happy feels.
hmm... too complicated... if you are looking for some single theme song it would be easy to put some stereotypical techno song.. but i don't think that has anything to do with real happines.. happiness is dynamic. it is the resolution after tension. without the tension there will be no resolution. so it is the saddest music, the most dissonant music that makes me the happiest.. rachmaninoff's first suite for two pianos.

21. Your favourite song that is not and has never been a radio single.
anything by philip glass with words.. not gonna happen until a station changes their format so dramatically that they are trying to repel all their listeners. .

22. Your favourite song from a soundtrack compilation album.
"Rue St. Vincent" from Rushmore's soundtrack.. same as Cat

23. A song that reminds you of high school.
Dream Theatre's change of seasons album. tony.. i'm looking in your direction

24. A song from the past that would be considered politically incorrect now (and possibly was then).
no sense to me... i don't really get it.

25. A song you like sung by an overweight person.
hahah.. wouldn't it be sad if i said something by an olson twin? no. it would just be uncharacteristicly mean. so i will.

26. A song you actually like by an artist you otherwise hate.
Le Blanche Traversee by jocelyn pook. i don't generally care for her work.

27. One of the earliest songs to which you can remember listening to.
sabicas and escudero (i think that was the second name)it was an album of brilliant flamenco guitar that i will always know every note of. i've been listening to it since before i was born.

28. A song you've been mocked by friends for liking.
most notably all the classical stuff.. and the TMBG.. and the minimalist stuff.

29. A cover song that you like.
i thought that cover from that new coldplay album was nice. more or less. but across the universe done by fiona apple has been my favorite cover for about 6 years now..

30. A song that has helped cheer you up (or empowered you somehow) after a breakup or otherwise difficult situation.
hmm.. nothing really comes to mind.. all music i find empowering... i mean, it's music.. that's what it is.

some more stuff

plop plop. i am happy that my work week only contains 4 more hours. i did so much this week. i had a normal day monday, plus two FOC patients. that was cooliente. then i had two ten hour days of value-stream-mapping. i know more about the process of insurance remuneration than i ever thought i would. and so today now i have only 4 hours remaining. .. next week i have a similar deal, but monday and tuesday will be my lean education, and half of wednesday. i've really enjoyed those teams, the people are very entertaining, though i don't know many of hte people tehy're talking about yet. anyway. then wednesday i have 4 acu appointments (no FOC) then i have the rest of hte week as rather normal, whatever's left you know. and i will have another weekend. i'm thinking i'd like to save up some vacation. and cat should take some sundays. that'll make me feel happier. weekends with cat. that would make a big difference.

check it out yo

guess what i made for dinner tonight... that's not a question, i guess it's a demand. so cough up. well.. this is more of a be-telling than a conversation. so BETOLD: i had falafel (that i made) and couscous, and i tried to make Tzatziki sauce, and coudn't because i discovered i'd bought vanilla yogurt rather than plain. BOO... no ya. It sucked. so i threw that out and added cumin to cottage cheese and used that to moisten those crunchy bastards. anyway. it only lacked the corona i added halfway into the meal. and then my night was made. while cooking hte falafel i set off hte smoke alarm. now i have to decide which book for work i'll read. because i'm about 1/3 done with one, 1/2 done with another, and haven't started the third (which is the biggest, but i figure the least important, since all the vital stuff is int he first two.. really the second one.. ) anyway. i have three quizes and i'll likely answer the questions and check the answers, if i can't finish the third book. i have two acu appointments this week.. so unless it's important will avoid answering the phone at all costs. cat can do that. and tomorrow we get our tv stuff.. heheh..big brother is watching us.

something

we got our bed.. well we bought our bed!.. but it will be delivered on friday, because that's how these things work apparently. i was pleased to have it done with. and tomorrow after work: microwave! we'll be able to nuke our food again! well, after we get it home and get it installed.. you can't just plug them in anymore.. you have to build them a little home over the range and let them nest there.. once their neurons burrow into the house and establish a connection with the central house-brain, then you can use it. and it will cook your food exactly how you tell it to.. with your mind. via your hands. but still with your mind.. hoohah. i'm gonna go to sleep now. and dream of microwaved vegetables.

woot

So I had a lot to do today. and i did almost eveyrthing i had on my agenda. however. i only found 1/3rd of the secret ingredient to the thing i'm making for next weekend. plus i have lots of cleaning and bed-buying to do soon. we've narrowed it down.. the best news of all is that Cat made me SUSHI for dinner! .. soi when i finally got home at 8:45 i had something delicious to eat. it's most excellent. and i read that shannon's article was in the paper, about sligarrettes.. and on the website it's listed at the top. that's pretty sweet. it was a good article, BTW shannon, and you should post again on your blog. you dont' wanna be an unbloggule. i dont' know what that is, but anyway. i should say something alarming and offensive, then people might talk on here. to me. i like comments. well.. for the most part. mr voice i'm looking in your direction. so check it out, tomorrow is work.. normal. then saturday and sunday no work! holy crap! it's as if i haven't had the last 5 days off and just come to work today. .. i'm craving tasty chinese dumplings. maybe sometime over the weekend i'll get to make some. it's irritatingly hard to make.. well, for the speed at which you eat them.. you know. anyway. good times. i'm gonna go now. and be productive at whatever else i have to do before tomorrow.

whughsroup

Home.. home home.. home. and the order of the day was recover-from-the-long-trip... This includes the tasks of orgainizing for the next two weeks, as well as getting a new microwave, and a new bed. The bed part is hard. everyone has advice. and much of it is different, conflicting even. I would assume this is because of different people's comforts. i'm not sure what i want. last weekend we slept on a bed that disagreed with me.. i think cat liked it though. i would assume i'd get used to it,. but right now i sleep on a very hard bed, but since it's the one i'm used to, i stay asleep. it's ok. i think my biggest problem with it is the fact that it's two very old twin beds pushed together. it's like the fifties again. well.. not entirely. anyway. so we're getting the house ready for the birthday of shannon. that should be extrafun. oh, and i wanted to say that that farscape we just watched was so sad.. oh, and when did stewie on the family guy start and stop saying 'what the deuce' and howcome NO ONE I KNOW SAYS THIS? Malison? i'm looking in your direction.... I'd better hear a 'What the deuce" this weekend at mom's. because we're gonna go there at some point, and you'll likely be there.

hoohah

so i'm going to drive to the coast in about a half hour. and i'm picking up cat. on the way... not after. oh! my mah jongg set is finally intact and done! i'mgonna bring it and teach all the peeps down there how to be chinese jews. it's gonna rock. well, they might not wanna and it wont' be fun.. way to spacebar. i guess since i corrected it you can't tell that several of the words in the preceding sentences were NOT separated by a spacebar. i couldn't find the book cat was gonna read on the coast. maybe she'll be content with amphigorey also. i know i will be.. andi got a couple books on the etymology of euphemisms and origins of certain dubious words (the ones people think come from something but really don't) . .. oh and a book of place names. which was written by british people, and it has all the counties in england and stuff about them. did youknow ireland was originally divided into 4 governmental regions which were again divided into counties? and the region with 'northern ireland' the place still a part of the UK is was made of 9 counties with 3 outside of the UK and the other six comprise the whole thing of northern ireland. 6 counties. i didn't think you knew that. ok. gonna go. have a good weekend everyone, and don't let any crazy kids burn your houses down. i hope mine is ok..
