excellent

First of all. i capitalized that initial letter of a sentence. how uncommon. So, tonight we got a series of unfortunate events from netflix. i had never been particularly interested in it. rather. anyway. we watched it and i have to say i was pleased. i have enjoyed the artwork of edward gorey since i was really small and i would watch the opening credits to that show on PBS, 'muystery' or whatever it was actually called.. it was just a weekly show (thursday nights at 9) that featured a different mystery each week.. anything from sherlock holmes to agatha christie story. i suppose that's not exactly a broad range. well, this show wasn't broad ranging in my recollection. however i should say now that i usually didn't watch past the edward gorey opening credits. anyway. i had a gashlycrumb tinies poster even... i can't find it right now though. i wonder where it's gotten to. anyway. this movie had a great deal of art and such in the style of that. so it pleased the gothmo geek inside me. which was starving in this cheery world of mine.. hah. no. i don't suppose it was starving. but neither was it fat. and with that i am going to sleep because i have to work tomorrow. and then again on saturday, but not at my job.. saturday i have to do something else fun.

oh yeah..

the other day (perhaps a few saturdays ago) i was talking about something... music i think. and i couldn't remember the name of some song.. something famous and recognized by Cesar Franck. It was not my favorite thing he wrote.. and i couldn't remember the name.. i knew it was one of those latin named things that is part of some churchy repertoire or something.. we went through a long list of possible things.. the thing i couldn't remember was panis angelicus. Pepe, there you go.

scrop

see.. now mostly i make up the words that sit in the title spot of my posts.. last week, whenever it was, that word was real.. but this one isn't, that i know of. it's always possible that in funk and wagnall's massive tome of a dictionary... something. yeah.. it could be in there.. so anyway. i don't have much to say today. typing this is boring. i think i'll go do some research. mmm.. research..

shibboleth

i heard someone (a certain house majority leader) call a judge an 'activist' i think that word has become something like 'groovy' for hippies or 'corporate shill' for liberals.. only this is a word almost exclusively used by angry conservatives.. always preaching about the constitution's authority, but then rejecting it's job description for the judicial branch of government. well.. whatever.. the only 'activists' i've ever seen were those millions of people marching around protesting the iraq invasion... and no one listened to them.. so what do you conservatives have to worry about a few judges.. you don't have to listen to them.. you never have to have a gay marriage.. or an abortion.. and no one will ever force you too.. not even an activist. oh, wait.. so this isn't about you? what's that? you're telling everyone else what to do? oh.. i missed that.. fine.. tell me what to do... but you can't make me do it..

damnit

so here's tonight's rant. because i'm back to that. the pope is all over the news. it's making me very irritated. this man is the one man i said prior to the old pope's death that i never wanted to see as pope. for a non-catholic i'm very well informed on some of these things. anyway. Cardinal Ratzinger is horrible and leans toward authoritarian.. starting out that trend with an early involvement with the hitler youth, and then continuing on to become a very conservative official in the church.. his former office that of the doctrine of the faith, was called the office of the holy inquisition before this.. (yes.. THAT inquisition)... i'm not pleased.. but perhaps the horrors of having this man lead catholics everywhere will make people see the dumbth in having one person tell you all what to do.. i doubt it though.. because humans are innately dumb. especially me.

irritating thing.. computers.. irritating. ok so anyway. tonight i made pizza for dinner. it had spinach and tahini and cheese and stuff. on it. it was pretty tasty. now, speaking of cheese.. on my way home from work today i heard a commercial. this commercial started with the line "i'm pitchin' a tent in the cheese aisle" ... so some of you that may sounds odd, but nothing more. to many more of you you'll think "what's so erotic about the damned cheese aisle" or "who the hell gets that turned-on because there's cheese around, and why did they let him sing a song about it on the radio"... or is there some kind of mind-controlling advertising going on, like by the labels on the cheeses?... i don't know. the commercial was for mcdonalds. either the writer snuck a fast one by them, which i prefer, or perhaps none of them have heard that golden turn of phrase to "pitch a tent" ... that's it for now. mtv sucks by the way.

saturday

yesterday was pretty cool. i didn't get up early, i got some stuff done around the house.. i made a spinachy food. and i ate it.. i got to hang out with cat and megan and aaron and juan. it was good times. spent today i cleaned more.. i think i'll even pay all my bills now. whoopdae. ok. so what's coming up... today should be good. tomorrow should be good too.. hopefully the rest of the week will be alright.. and then another weekend. i can't recall what's happening that weekend. something. not the special olympics.. that's teh weekend after.. monica's birthday and the watching of hitch hiker's guide to the whatnot... then it's freakin may. freakin may .. may. does anyone else see the magnitude of that? may!!!!.... shortly thereafter i expect june.. and the likely july. we haven't decided about august yet. we'll let you know.

4.14.2005

heh

cat saw a shirt in a magamazine a minute ago that said "i [heart] skinny boys with glasses" she said she should get it. i agree. being that. she made this strange and tasty thing for dinner tonight.. i've made dinner pretty much every night for weeks and months.. but this time she did.. and she made it up.. based on this chicken and rice casserole that megan made.. it's strange and tasty. i can't explain it. it has cheese and milk and such. it's very good. so i think it's bed time. and then i go to work tomorrow.. woo. .. woooooooo... ! it will be fun. Drisana better be there..

saturday was cool

i figured it would be good to post tonight. since i am just loitering online with no real goal. i had the most interesting day yesterday. I met Cat's childhood friend and her friend's mom. They were fascinating. hopefully i wasn't boorish.. but i was pretty excited to meet them and i probably talked too much. but what are you gonna do? anyway. i left feeling very happy. and full of some really tasty pizza and salad. the whole day was excellent.

so what was it.. i was gonna talk about somthing. i can't recall what. let me think. checking for whatever it was. so i guess there will be nothing. oh. so last night i made crepes. and strawberry sauce.. fraise. it was really tasty, i should say. they took forever. shannnon wants some for her birthday weekend extravaganza. that would take even longer. unless of course i get two pans to make them on. then i could be making two at a time rather than just one. i guess that's enough. i'll watch tv now

Slartibartfast

excellent.. excellent indeed. i have found a new literary hero. if there were a which hitch hiker's guide character are you, this would have to be the one i'd get. frankly, i found all the rest of them to be kind of meh. you know. but slartibartfast likes everything that i like.. designing coastlines!!! FJORDS@!!!! which sounds rather like FNORD which you may not be able to see here but you will perhaps feel uncomfortable at my mention of it. muhahah. this is most excellent. very pleased i am. i'll be done for awhile now. good night.

lawnmower business

ok.. so today i figured i'd mow my disgusting lawn. it was long. not just long, it looked like a wild scottish moor. so full of moss it generates a low cloud of mist. it's brilliant. i love it. however, it doesn't belong that way in our neighborhood... i had to mow it. last time i tried to mow the lawn was a long time ago. i think i twas right before halloween. the thing ran out of gass when i was almost done and so i left the lawn with a mowhawk. it filled back in thanks to our very mild winter. right. i left the mower with no gas over the winter. i didn't like it to begin with because you have to hold onto the thing to keep it going. i hate that. . . . anyway. so i had to get a gas can and then fill it with gas. so we went to the store early and did just that. when we got back in and filled the gas tank i wheeled out the mower and hit my head on a low hanging branch. so then i started it up.. seems ok, a bit of stale grey smoke. then i started to mow. it was going ok. the grass wasn't wet and it was super long so i anticipated some trouble.. but wasn't having much. until i got two rows done. the thing stopped.. so i started it.. it worked ok.. i went a little farther, then it stopped again. so i turned it over and cleaned it out and started it again.. again it stopped.. so i started it gain. moved a little farther. stopped again. i pulled the string again.. it breaks.. snaps right off. boo. i walked inside holding the tattered string for cat to see.. we went to the store and got another mower.. a push reel mower. i like it. i expect i'll have to go over the grass a few times to get it back to normal, and then i'll have ot do it more regularly but i don't care.. i never have to hold that bar all the time, i won't get blisters.. i'm very pleased.. very pleased indeed.
