courtness
First of all, i'd like to thank everyone for an awesome xmas.
Go You all!
Second, We estimated our taxes and it looks like we might actually have very minor amounts to pay this year.. in contrast with our knock-down 1K bill last year.
Thirdly, I went to mitigate my ticket today, at le courthouse d'Everett. I left work at 9:45 to get to the courthouse because i was afraid of being late, and being penalized for that, and i know that it always takes a little time to find a courtroom.. i was correct on that point, it was not intuitive, and i set off the metal detectors with my steel-toed boots i generally wear.
-note to all of you who will be making an appearance at a courthouse *do not wear steel-toed boots, if at all possible*
So i wandered around in teh building, discovering i was in the wrong building, and arriving finally at the place i needed to be just 3 minutes before the thing was about to start. i went into the empty hearing room and sat patiently in the back. people filed in as they arrived, and all but two people on the list were there by 10:32. one guy arrived about 8 minutes late and another about 25 minutes late.
one might think that was a big deal, but one would be wrong.
the stenographer arrived at 10:37 and took a quick roll, i was reassured i was in the right place. she said that we have a few minutes to wait because the judge had a busy jail calendar. I don't konw what that means. but apparently he was very busy.
we waited and waited. the stenographer busied herself with some kind of pre-work and came and went and again. finally she came back with a judge, who announced that he was very sorry for the delay, but he would fill in and get things going. it was now 11:15. he sat down and started describing how the deferrals work, which i wish i was able to have gotten, but no. and just as he finished the story another judge came in, and finished his sentence. this judge said he'd take over, and they laughed about it. they changed seats, and the new judge said he'd get right to it. he was really nice and all, giving everyone decent reductions of penalties. as appropriate. you know. anyway. i got lost again trying to find my car. but someone helped me find it, i think i got lost because i didn't find my way in in the first place, because i was afraid of being late. anyway. awesome.
day over.
