today morning

it is very early.. 5something, before i leave.. it's quiet.. except for the sounds of cat taking a shower. that's a nice thing.. it's a good morning. i will be leaving momentarily, but i thought i had time to post. not much to say, but oh yeah.. the supreme court will be looking at that oregon assisted suicide law.. interesting news eh? it's funny the way a big group of people who claim to 'not want the government telling people what to do' would really like the government to tell people what to do in that case... isn't it?

There are a few Senators down here in Oregon that I have a great deal of respect for, because they're both Republican in the traditional sense, rather than in the unfortunate sense that has become todays reality. They believe in states rights, which is why they end up supporting civil unions bills and things like that. I'm not sure where they stand on this particular issue...

contrarily, i can only commend that republican for convincing people that the republican party has some affinity for states rights. but since its inception the republican party's greatest hypocrisy is that they insist on telling states what to do. they were the federalists. they were the whigs. the republicans under that name first appeared united in the belief that above all things slavery was wrong. no state had the right to say otherwise. now the republicans feel tthe same way about abortion and gay rights (they say let the states decide when they know the state will say no, not when they are confident the state will endorse gay marriage), and the right to die, etc. they don't want to be to told what to do with their money (taxes) but they want to tell everyone what is right and wrong. if your oregon republicans support civil unions, how can they represent the state of oregon that dashed the idea when it came to public vote? i always assume the worst with all politicians, democrats and republicans. because anyone who seeks power over the public cannot be doing it for good reasons. power corrupts. .or perhaps desire for power corrupts. but i have to go now and rub cat's back. i ruined her pants by putting them in the drier. i shoudlnt' be allowed to do laundry..
