a happy story
i suppose i ruined the ending by entitling the story that. how poor of a story teller i am.
i just remembered this today, i dont' know why. but it's nice to remember excellent moments in your life. so i'll share..
this is an old one. it was about 8 years ago almost now. not quite i guess. for those of you that care to do math. but anyway:
it was sometime in june. i was either just finishing or just out of high shcool.. i am pretty sure. i think it might have been near my actual birthday, but i can't remember. i was due at western in the afternoon one day to take my math placement test. i had planned to have my friend sean drive me up. i was expecting to hear some excellent music along the way and i was not disappointed one bit. these were the days when you couldn't find interesting techno music in the mall cd store. that still might be true. so i go up. listen to some fascinating stories of what's to come when i go to college the next fall, and i take the test.. it was uneventful (i didn't do well for someone who'd just completed AP calculus, though that has nothing to do with this story). we drive back to my house, listening to more music and i mention that my friend shannon (as linked on this page) had planned to watch a movie that night and i was gonna go. sean sounded interested but i figured he wouldn't want ot hang out with that other discrete group of friends (which was constituted of me and shannon i think)... anyway. so i get home and i wanted to call and make sure it was the right time, i think i was slightly late as my test had taken some time. my dad was in a foul mood and started yelling about how i needed to be home early and something something. i didn't know what he was talking about . i found it irritating and i wanted to leave. i figured i'd be driving myself, and sean would be going his own way home. but at thelast minute he asked if he could come watch a movie. i surprisedly said sure, i guess. called shannon to mention it, and we left. i complained about my dad being in a bad mood, and it put me in a severely bad mood on the way to shannon's. so we got there and went to the door and shannon let me in.. we shuffled toward the kitchen and i noticed that there were quite a few people in the house. .. maybe 16 or 20, counting us newcomers.. as shannon said "happy birthday" my jaw dropped and several pictures were taken. friends i had from all different groups were there.. friends who didn't get along, or particularly like eachother.. friends from all over.. they were there for my birthday.. which i had forgotten about.
so we ate some cake, and i opened some kickass presents, and it was very good. most excellent. shannon managed to turn a pretty crappy mood into a good mood that carried me for several weeks.. despite all the turmoil i was anticipating what with working a night job all summer and then moving to a new town to go to a new school with mostly people i didn't know. woop. so thanks shannon!.. and that's my story.
